Karachi’s administration has kicked off a special campaign to ensure fair prices at major markets throughout the holy month of Ramadan. Commissioner Karachi, Muhammad Salim Rajput, has underscored the significance of easing the burden on citizens during Ramadan and instructed officials to rigorously enforce government-mandated prices.
The initiative, closely supervised by deputy commissioners, involves a collaborative effort with the police, food department, and weights and measures department. The campaign has resulted in fines imposed on 148 major sellers, totaling over RS 957,000. In the district south, fines amounting to Rs 294,000 were levied on 31 major sellers, while the district east saw fines exceeding Rs 120,000 imposed on 19 major sellers.
Similarly, fines surpassing Rs 111,000 were imposed on 34 major sellers in the district west, while the central region witnessed fines totaling Rs 147,000 on 11 major sellers. In Malir, fines totaling Rs 53,000 were imposed on 29 major sellers, with fines exceeding Rs 110,000, Rs 53,000, and Rs 120,000 levied on 8 major sellers in Korangi, 16 major sellers in Kemari, and 11 major sellers in Central, respectively.
