WASHINGTON/CARACAS – The CIA submitted a report to US President Donald Trump outlining regime loyalists figures considered suitable to lead Venezuela after President Nicolás Maduro, the US media reported on Tuesday.
The international media reported that the identified individuals are believed to be in the strongest position to maintain stability in Venezuela during a potential political transition.
Among the names mentioned is Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s acting president, who is reportedly viewed as a key contender for future leadership.
The development comes amid escalating tensions following a US military operation in Venezuela over the weekend.
According to the reports, US Delta Force personnel detained President Nicolás Maduro and his wife from the presidential palace.
President Trump claimed that Maduro and his wife were arrested from their bedroom and transferred to New York, where they will face trial on charges related to drug trafficking and terrorism.
Trump further stated that the United States would oversee Venezuela until a formal transfer of power takes place, adding that US oil companies would be deployed to operate in the country.
Meanwhile, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado said that a free Venezuela could become a major energy hub for the United States.
