ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Thursday launched retaliatory missile strikes into Iran, killing several Baloch militants in the aftermath of Iran’s strikes in Pakistan as the Middle East conflict escalated.

Iranian media said at least nine individuals were killed as result of strikes while Pakistan said number of Baloch terrorists were killed who were involved in attacks on security forces and civilians. Armed forces acted in light of intelligence of impending massive terrorist activities and said number of insurgents were killed.

Amid the soaring tensions between the two sides, Pakistan and Iran’s allies China and Turkey offered to facilitate mediation as Islamabad suspended diplomatic ties with its westerly nation.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing sincerely hopes Iran and Pakistan exercise restraint and avoid an escalation of tension. She offered playing a constructive role in de-escalating the situation.

Amid the heated moment, the Chinese Consul General in Karachi Yang Yundong also offered to mediate in settling differences between Islamabad and Tehran.

China said Iran and Pakistan were leading Islamic countries in the region, hoping that both sides would resolve the tensions in peaceful ways.

Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan says Islamabad and Tehran do not want to escalate further tensions. He mentioned having a word with both counterparts and said both sides are committed to restraint.

In a press conference, Mr Fidan said Pakistan and Iran explained to him the justifications of their military actions, and assured that situation is under control.
