BEIJING – China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi convened an informal trilateral meeting in Beijing today with Pakistan and Afghanistan foreign ministers aiming to strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance cooperation.

The meeting included Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi. The ministers reflected positively on the progress achieved through ongoing China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue mechanism and explored ways to deepen their collaboration for shared benefits.

Wang Yi outlined seven key priorities from discussion enhancing political trust and sustaining friendly neighborly relations, with China supporting Afghanistan and Pakistan in pursuing development paths suited to their unique national conditions while safeguarding sovereignty and security.

Utilizing dialogue platform to its full potential and planning to hold the sixth round of meetings in Kabul at the earliest opportunity. Strengthening diplomatic ties, with Afghanistan and Pakistan agreeing in principle to exchange ambassadors soon, a move welcomed and supported by Beijing.

Advancing cooperation under Belt and Road Initiative, particularly extension of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor into Afghanistan, alongside broader efforts to improve regional connectivity.

Expanding practical cooperation by broadening the scope of collaboration and supporting Afghanistan’s reconstruction and trade development. Jointly combating terrorism through coordinated law enforcement and security efforts while remaining vigilant against external interference in regional affairs.

Promoting peace and stability in the region to foster an environment conducive to development and revitalization for all three nations.

The meeting underscores China’s commitment to promoting regional stability and economic integration through multilateral dialogue, reinforcing its role as a key facilitator in South and Central Asian affairs.
