Syed Murad Ali Shah wasted no time as he commenced his third term in office by presiding over a meeting on law and order, where he directed the police to ramp up efforts to tackle street crime hotspots and enhance security measures across the province. During the meeting, CM Murad emphasized the need to focus on areas with high rates of street crime and to revive all non-operational check posts in the katcha areas to combat kidnapping for ransom in the Riverine region.
He stressed the importance of increasing the strength of police stations from 12,000 to 24,000 personnel across the city to bolster security. Expressing concern over the rising trend of street crime and kidnapping for ransom in certain divisions, CM Murad called for targeted operations against drug mafias to effectively curb criminal activities. The meeting, attended by top officials including Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhre Alam and IG Police Riffat Mukhtar, addressed various aspects of law enforcement and security in the province. In response to recent incidents of street crime, IG Police Mukhtar presented data showing instances of robbery-related fatalities and snatched mobile phones and vehicles.
CM Murad directed the IG Police to identify vulnerable police stations and hotspots for street crime to prioritize law enforcement efforts in these areas. Recognizing the importance of visible policing, CM Murad instructed the city police chief to deploy senior police officers on the streets during evening hours to deter criminals. Additionally, he called for the rationalization of police deployment and recruitment to address the shortage of personnel.
In a bid to enhance traffic management, CM Murad urged the IG Police to strengthen the Traffic Police force and ensure effective traffic control, especially in light of ongoing development projects causing congestion in the city. Furthermore, CM Murad imposed a ban on the display of arms and strobe lights on vehicles, except for authorized law enforcement vehicles.
He emphasized the need to crack down on vehicles with unauthorized lighting systems to maintain law and order. Addressing concerns about security in the Riverine areas, CM Murad instructed the IG Police to devise a plan for a crackdown in these regions and to revive non-functional police stations. He expressed readiness to collaborate with other provinces for a joint operation to address cross-border criminal activities. CM Murad also underscored the importance of improving the investigation process to ensure that criminals are brought to justice.
He directed the IG Police to strengthen the investigation wing and facilitate collaboration between police officers and prosecutors to enhance crime-solving capabilities. Moreover, CM Murad issued directives to expedite the Karachi Safe City project and allocate funds for the repair and reconstruction of dilapidated police stations. He emphasized the need for well-maintained and secure police facilities to support effective law enforcement.
The meeting also received updates from DG Rangers Sindh Maj Gen Azhar Waqas, who briefed CM Murad on ongoing operations against drug mafias and terrorists. He highlighted efforts to enhance security in the Riverine areas and facilitate infrastructure development projects. Overall, CM Murad’s proactive approach on his first day in office reflects his commitment to improving law and order and ensuring the safety and security of the people of Sindh.
