PAKISTAN Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that not the PTI but someone else wanted anarchy in the country. In an address on TV and social media on Monday, the former Prime Minister said whatever was happening in Pakistan had never happened before, alleging also that the prime objective behind the May 9 incident was to take advantage of the situation to eliminate the PTI, whereas his party only wanted fresh polls.
No doubt, the PTI is facing a serious dilemma as on the one hand most of its leadership might be tried in military courts for their involvement, in one way or the other, in May 09 incidents and on the other hand the remaining leaders are leaving the party one by one on an almost daily basis. It is, therefore, the question of survival for the party which demands a prudent approach aimed at damage control. However, it seems the party is clueless as it continues to put the blame on institutions for its prevailing predicament whereas it has to blame itself for its miscalculations on numerous occasions. It was the PTI’s own decision to lead protestors to military buildings and facilities in reaction to the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case and, therefore, the allegation that the prime objective behind May 09 incidents was to eliminate the PTI has no substance at all. In the presence of undeniable evidence that attacks were led by the PTI leaders and activists, it would be a futile exercise to point accusing fingers towards others. Instead of polluting the environment further, the party should focus on legal defence and prove the innocence of its leaders and workers before the courts of law.
