After opposition from a handful of fundamentalists and some politicians too, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday sprang to ‘clarify’ its stance over the proposed construction of a temple for the Hindu community of Islamabad and made it clear that building plan for the temple was not yet approved. “The construction work can be undertaken in Islamabad only after approval of building plan,” said a spokesperson of the CDA in a statement explaining, though the land had been allocated in the sector H-9/2 for a community centre, cremation place and temple on the 2,354 sq yards of land adjacent to cremation site for All Pakistan Buddhist Society. However, the building plan for the purpose has not been approved.
The Religious Affairs Ministry also clarified in a statement that the Hindus Community had lodged an application with the National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) and the CDA while considering the application allotted land back in 2017 for the construction of the temple in the above-mentioned sector.
