Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore has halted the operations of the Anti-Land Mafia Cell as it has not any legal protection and writ petitions have been started filed against the police in the courts.

The CCPO Lahore has written a letter to the IG seeking legal protection for the cell on Tuesday.

The anti-land mafia cell was formed in the CCPO Lahore office two years ago after the approval of the Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

The Police Department, Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Revenue Department, Overseas Pakistan Commission, and Cooperatives Department were included in the cell.

CCPO Lahore Fayyaz Ahmed deactivated the cell after his appointment as the cell did not have legal protection and writ petitions were filed against the police in the courts.

The CCPO Lahore has informed IG Punjab about the legality issues of the cell.

The police records revealed that 113 petitions have not been processed in the cell due to a lack of legal status.
