Scholars and scientists at an international conference here at the University of Gujrat (UoG) have called for concerted efforts to dig out a solution for environmentally-friendly resources of energy and power.
The two-day International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment (ICEPE-21) opened here at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Thursday.
The main objective of the first annual international conference, which is being organized by the UoG faculty of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with the Gift University Gujranwala and the University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, is to provide a common platform to scientists, engineers and scholars from around the globe to devise environmentally friendly means for energy and power generation.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Shabbar Atiq chaired the opening session of the conference. Prof. Dr Mohammad Inayatullah Khan, Vice Chancellor UET Taxila, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Rector Gift University Prof. Dr Faheem Ul Islam and Valencia University, Spain, Prof. Dr Bernabe Mari Soucase were the guests of honour. Dean Prof. Dr Shahid Iqbal was in the host’s chair.
“Today’s world is entirely dependent upon the timely availability of environmentally-friendly sustainable resources of energy,” Prof. Dr Shabbar Atiq said, highlighting the need for discovering more environmentally-friendly energy resources.
“Rapid growth in population, economy and industry are having a negative impact on the environment around us,” Dr Shabbar Atiq said. However, he expressed his hope that if scientists and experts from around the globe work together and share knowledge through platforms such as ICEPE-21, they would soon be able to find sustainable solutions to the energy crisis.
Prof. Dr Mohammad Inayatullah Khan said that the natural environment and beauty of our planet hinges upon our efforts towards finding ‘clean and green’ resources of energy and power.
“Environmental pollution has become a serious problem today,” he said. “In recent years,” he said, “COVID-19 has profoundly affected human lifestyles,” adding that “we must save the earth’s natural environment for our future generations.”
