LAHORE – The Home Department Punjab has asked the Ministry of Interior to suspend the mobile phone and internet services in 13 districts of Punjab during upcoming by-elections 2024.

The provincial department has sent a letter in this regard to the federal ministry to suspend the services on April 21.

The by-elections will be held on 21 national and provincial seats across Pakistan on April 21 (tomorrow) amid tight security.

Elections were originally scheduled for 23 constituencies. However, the results of two of those seats, one provincial and one national, have already been announced.

The letter said that mobile internet services should be suspended in the 13 districts to avoid any untoward incident.

The provincial government has sought suspension of mobile internet services in Lahore, Talagang, Chakwal, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Kallar Kahar, Gujrat, Sadiqabad, DG Khan, Ali Pur Chatha, Bakkhar City, Zafarwal, and Kot Chutta.

The Home Department has also issued copies of the letter to IGP Punjab, Chairman PTA, CCPO Lahore and relevant commissioners.
