ISLAMABAD – The jail authorities on Thursday informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that shifting Bushra Bibi from Bani Gala to Adiala jail, saying that her transfer to the facility was not feasible.

IHC bench comprising Justice Mian Gul Hassan was hearing the case regarding shifting of Bushra Bibi from Banigala to Adiala jail.

Usman Gul, the lawyer, represented the former first lady before the court.

The Adial jail superintendent submitted a report in the court and informed it about the reasons behind keeping Bushra Bibi at Bani Gala.

The report outlined that the logistical constraints and security considerations made it impractical to accommodate Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail, which already housed 250 female inmates.

Meanwhile, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad is yet to submit a response to the court.

A law officer, however, sought more time for the Chief Commissioner’s submission. The court accepted his plea and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

Bushra Bibi, who has been convicted in the Toosha Khana and illegal marriage case, is determined to contest her sentence. She argued that her transfer to Adiala Jail is essential for parity with other political detainees.

Bushra Bibi submitted that denying her transfer to Adiala Jail would contravene principles of equality before the law.
