American pop star Britney Spears reportedly spent several weeks at a luxury rehabilitation facility in the US following her recent arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The latest reports suggested that Spears had been staying at Borden Cottage, an exclusive treatment centre located in the state of Maine, before leaving the facility earlier this month.
The rehabilitation centre is considered among the most expensive in the country. Reports said the minimum 45-day treatment programme at the facility costs nearly $140,000. However, Spears is believed to have left the centre after spending less than three weeks there.
The singer reportedly received treatment for both mental health and substance abuse issues during her stay. The facility accommodates only eight patients at a time to provide personalised care and private treatment programmes.
In addition to conventional therapies, the centre also offers holistic wellness activities including yoga, tai chi and personal fitness training. Patients are also provided therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness sessions, art therapy and group counselling.
A representative for Spears confirmed earlier that the singer had voluntarily admitted herself to a treatment facility. Media reports quoting sources close to the singer claimed she sought professional help after struggling emotionally in recent months.
Her treatment came nearly a month after she was arrested in Ventura County on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities alleged at the time that the singer appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs while driving.
Spears, known worldwide for hit songs including “Toxic,” has faced several personal and legal challenges in recent years, many of which have remained under intense public scrutiny.
