A 10-year-old child sustained severe burns when muezzin of a local mosque allegedly threw acid on him.
According to police, the incident took place in New Model Town area of Gojra City where a muezzin attacked the boy acid.
The injured was rushed to Gojra Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where his condition is said to be in critical condition.
The police informed that the boy identified as Mukkaramul Hassan, was staying at the mosque, Masjid-e-Siddiqiya for religious studies with his maternal uncle Riazul Hassan.
The police officials said that Mukaramul Hassan was asleep in the mosque after Fajr prayers. In the meanwhile, muezzin Abdul Rehman sprinkled acid on him.
The accused managed to flee the scene after the acid attack, however, the motive for the crime is still unknown.
Toba DPO Rana Umar Farooq took notice of the incident and ordered immediate arrest of the accused. The police have launched investigation into the incident.
