ISLAMABAD – The differences between the government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over the federal budget remained unresolved on Tuesday prompting PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to postpone his speech in the National Assembly during the ongoing budget debate as a mark of protest.
The party sources said that senior PPP leader Naveed Qamar gave a detailed briefing to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari regarding the budget and consultations held with the government.
During the briefing, Naveed Qamar reportedly informed the PPP chairman that significant differences existed between the budget proposals and financial figures shared with the party during consultations and those ultimately presented in the National Assembly.
Sources said the PPP leadership expressed concern over the discrepancies and decided to seek an immediate explanation from the government.
A high-level party delegation is expected to contact government representatives soon to discuss the issue and seek clarification, according to sources.
Amid the ongoing dispute over the budget, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari postponed his scheduled speech in the National Assembly budget debate in protest.
