THE counter-strike conducted by the defence forces against terrorist hideouts in Iran’s Sistan-Balochistan province stands as a testament to the nation’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its security. This operation, codenamed ‘Marg Bar Sarmachar,’ was not merely a military manoeuvre but a resolute response that aligned with the aspirations of the Pakistani people. It once again speaks volumes about the capability and professionalism of our defence forces, showcasing their determination to address threats to national security with precision and effectiveness.
Crucially, the counter-strike carefully avoided any collateral damage to Iranian military installations or government offices. The targeting of terrorist hideouts highlighted a well-calculated and thoughtful approach, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to responsible military actions. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement further clarified the success of the operation in neutralizing hideouts used by terrorist organizations, specifically the Balochistan Liberation Army and Balochistan Liberation Front. Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, in a statement, also asserted that Pakistan fully respects Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding the counter-strike was executed to secure Pakistan’s national interest, a paramount consideration that cannot be compromised. Such clarity in communication underscores the maturity and responsibility with which Pakistan navigated this challenging situation. The fact of the matter is that our defence forces’ action was compelled by the irresponsible Iranian strikes, otherwise, Pakistan has always pressed for and pursued diplomatic solutions. There is a dire need now to avoid further escalation. Reports indicating conciliatory engagements between officials from both the countries are welcomed as positive steps towards de-escalation. Iran’s foreign ministry statement stressing it would not allow its enemies to strain its amicable and brotherly relations with Islamabad is very encouraging. Resolution of problems through dialogue is the only way forward. It is only through concerted and coordinated efforts that the challenges such as that of terrorism can be dealt with effectively. Also the beneficiary of any tension between Pakistan and Iran will not be their peoples but our adversaries. Sanity must prevail. The last year had seen a positive trajectory in bilateral relations between the two countries and that course should be taken forward to solidify the relations in diverse fields. The global context is crucial in assessing the ramifications of regional conflicts. With the world already grappling with the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the breakout of any further conflict will have disastrous consequences for the world.
