Bangladeshi pace bowler Qazi Onik (also spelt as Kazi Anik) has been banned for consuming drugs. This was confirmed by Dr. Debashish Chaudhary, the chief medical officer of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Dhaka late Sunday evening, he said “He has been banned for two years for failing a dope test during last season’s National Cricket League. He had failed the test in November 2018″.
“I agree the suspension is made public now because of certain legalities we had to comply with and also to inform the ICC’.
“However, we stopped him from playing cricket since February last year and the ban is back-dated”.
The 21-year-old fast bowler, who played four First Class matches has accepted his offence and signed the sentence. Onik tested positive for Methamphetamine. The player will be available to resume cricket early next year.
