DHAKA – The official election campaign for Bangladesh’s general elections set to take place on February 12, 2026, has officially commenced as the political parties and independent candidates are mobilizing across the country.
The upcoming elections will mark the first since the end of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration. Following her government’s conclusion, various political groups are intensifying their campaigns, signaling a highly competitive race.
The National Citizen Party, a youth-led political faction that has long opposed Hasina’s leadership, launched its election campaign in Dhaka. The party, which has been at the forefront of protests against the former prime minister’s rule, aims to gain substantial traction in the upcoming polls.
Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, another significant political party, also kicked off its campaign from Dhaka, with top party leaders addressing supporters and rallying for votes in the capital.
Meanwhile, Tarique Rahman, the leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), held a roadshow in Sylhet district, showcasing his party’s platform and seeking to gather public support in preparation for the elections.
However, a major development has occurred with the exclusion of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League from the election race. Due to a legal ban, the party will not be able to participate in the upcoming polls, leaving a significant gap in the political landscape.
The political analysts expect a fiercely contested race for power as the campaign is now fully underwent, with a range of political factions vying for the support of Bangladesh’s electorate.
