QUETTA – The Balochistan government on Monday announced a three-day mourning period following the tragic blast in Quetta that claimed the lives of 26 people and injured 62 others.
The national flag will fly at half-mast on government buildings until November 13.
After a security briefing held following the suicide attack, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that a decision has been made to crush terrorism with full force, pledging to eliminate terrorism from Balochistan completely.
During a security meeting alongside the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the Federal Interior Minister also announced that necessary resources would be provided to the provincial government on a priority basis.
At the meeting, Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti expressed the commitment to enhancing the professional capabilities of police and Levies with the support of the federal government.
An FIR was lodged yesterday by the SHO of the Railway Police at the CTD police station regarding the blast at Quetta Railway Station, naming unknown individuals as suspects.
According to CTD officials, the FIR includes charges of murder, attempted murder, terrorism and provisions of the Explosives Act.
In the suicide blast, 27 people were martyred, and 62 were injured.
The CTD officials explained that the suicide bomber detonated the explosives among passengers. The bomber carried a bag containing 8 to 10 kilograms of explosives. The remains of the suicide bomber would be sent to the forensic lab for testing, and NADRA would assist in identifying the attacker.
Railway officials reported that the Jaffer Express was scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9 am, but the train had not yet arrived at the platform when the explosion occurred near the ticket counter at the railway station.
Quetta Commissioner Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat also confirmed that the blast was a suicide attack targeting the law enforcement and the civilians. The martyrs and injured include people from Balochistan and other cities across the country.
