DALLAS – National cricket team captain Babar Azam is optimistic as Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 journey to start on Thursday (tomorrow), vowing that they would lift the World Cup trophy this year.
Speaking to the media in Dallas, Babar Azam emphasized that they have a clear plan on how they want to play cricket, aiming to perform well in the World Cup and achieve success.
The national captain said that the absence of warm-up matches does not matter as they are in the midst of playing. They are utilizing the available facilities for practice, with batters undergoing training in indoor facilities and bowlers training in the field.
He said, “This is the first time cricket is being played in America, so do not think that everything is not available or lacking. We are not concerned about the distance from the hotel or facilities; it is the responsibility of the board.”
Analyzing the matches played in the T20 World Cup so far, Babar Azam mentioned that high-scoring matches are not evident here. Some of their players played here before, so they had an idea of the conditions.
“Shadab, Imad, and Haris have previously played here,” said Babar.
He expressed his trust in every player as a captain, with Shadab being the most trusted as he has performed in various conditions. Shadab Khan is effective in all three departments of the game, and Babar hopes that the conditions here will favor Shadab.
Talking about Pakistan and US match, Babar Azam said that the US had the advantage of home conditions. He said that they are aware of the grounds here, and he trusted his team to play good cricket. Fast bowlers, Babar said, are performing well here, so he had faith in his fast bowlers, adding that they had the world’s best fast bowlers.
“Our World Cup journey begins tomorrow. Now all senior players have to step up and take responsibility. We will try not to repeat the mistakes made in the past,” he added.
