Babar Azam Crowned T20i Run King After Smashing Rohit Sharmas Record

LAHORE – Former skipper Babar Azam stormed past India’s Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-scorer in men’s T20I history. He achieved this feat in just his second match after returning to the T20I fold, Babar made the milestone during Pakistan’s dominant nine-wicket victory over South Africa at home.

Pakistan superstar entered game needing a mere nine runs to eclipse Rohit’s record of 4,231 runs in 151 innings.

True to his class, Azam reached the landmark in his 123rd innings, finishing unbeaten on 11 off 18 balls. Pakistan’s chase of South Africa’s modest 110 was effortless, leveling the three-match series 1-1 in the process.

Babar’s brilliance doesn’t stop at breaking records, he has also smashed 36 half-centuries in T20 internationals, consistently proving himself as one of the greatest batters of his generation. With legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, third on list with 4,188 runs, retired from T20Is, he now stands head and shoulders above active players, with England’s Jos Buttler the closest contender at 3,869 runs.

And excitement isn’t over yet. Babar has the perfect opportunity to further cement his legacy in the series-deciding clash against South Africa, scheduled for 1 November. The cricketing world will be watching as Pakistan’s maestro continues to rewrite history.
