PUNJAB Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamayun Sarfraz has announced that the two year conventional BA/BSC degree is being abolished and replaced with two year market-oriented Associate Degree (AD) Program in the public and private colleges. The students will get degrees in thirty different disciplines including business, commerce and accounting and information technology under the Associate Degree.
This indeed is a revolutionary step on the part of Punjab Government to promote higher education and equip the youth with the education and training as per the modern day requirements. The fact of the matter is that this two-year BA/BSC degree program had lost its value and utility and those pursuing this program were finding it hard to get jobs in the market. Therefore, the provincial government has taken a very wise decision to replace this program with a more professional degree program which will indeed enable the youth to stand on their own feet and secure opportunities both at home and abroad. One has great expectations from young people like provincial Minister Yasir Humayun Sarfraz to bring a change in the education system which has been the election manifesto of PTI. To ensure the success of AD Program, it is important that the entire environment at the public sector colleges is changed. For this necessary infrastructure is built and equipment is provided to them besides ensuring that trained faculty is available. We will also other federating units to also phase out BA/BSC program with a more professional degree program in order to prepare the youth as per the market demand.
