ISLAMABAD – The federal government has removed Dr Sohail Habib Tajik as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) days after violent protests in the region.
The protests against high electricity bill and flour rates continued for days in AJK while a police official was also martyred during the violence. The protests were called off after the federal government announced a massive relief package for the region and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured them of maximum relief.
The Establishment Division has issued a notification regarding removal of Tajik and appointment of Abdul Jabbar, a BS-20 officer currently serving in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), as his replacement.
Abdul Jabbar has been transferred and placed at the disposal of the AjK government for his posting.
