ISLAMABAD – Another controversy erupted over the second phase of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections after allegations of large-scale electoral fraud emerged from LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I, where clips circulating on social media show ballot papers being stamped inside a polling station.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) local leaders made allegations, saying Polling Station No. 92 (Forest Mandal), Municipal Committee Pattika, was allegedly used for fraudulent voting during polling. The party claimed that while the presiding officer was away offering prayers, individuals allegedly associated with the rival party openly stamped ballot papers inside the station.

PPP candidate from LA-27 Kotla claimed to have caught the alleged perpetrators red-handed and submitted video evidence and a formal complaint to the Election Commission. The party further alleged that despite informing election authorities, the alleged ballot stamping continued and that the same individuals later participated in the counting of votes.
Videos claiming to document the alleged irregularities have since gone viral on social media, intensifying demands for an impartial investigation. However, the authenticity of the footage and the allegations has not been independently verified, and the Election Commission has yet to issue an official statement on the claims.
Polling resumed on Tuesday at 57 polling stations in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I and LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II after voting was postponed on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secured 14 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party has won five constituencies in the elections held so far. The electoral process is not yet complete, with the third and final phase of polling scheduled for August 10 across 11 constituencies (LA-14 to LA-24) in the Poonch Division, covering the districts of Rawalakot, Pallandri, Bagh, and Haveli.
The allegations from LA-27 are expected to add further political tension to the AJK elections, with opposition parties demanding transparency and accountability as the Election Commission comes under pressure to investigate the claims.
