Giving credit to the government’s timely decisions, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said on Monday that cases and the mortality rate in the second wave of Covid-19 had started to decline in the country.
“When the second wave accelerated we closed high-risk areas identified by our analysis in last week of November,” Umar said in a series of tweets.
The minister said decisions and results were highly correlated, adding “In the first week of December hospital admissions peaked, in the second week patients on oxygen/vents peaked, in the third week mortality peaked and then declined.”
He also shared data regarding the trends of Covid cases in the same tweet.
As per the data, the number of daily admissions of Covid patients in hospitals experienced a downward trend from its peak of 269 patients on Nov 30 to 183 patients on Jan 11.
Similarly, the number of deaths has also declined from 78 died on Dec 21, 2020 whereas on Jan 11, the number of deaths declined to 32.
In addition, the number of critical hospitalised patients due to Covid also declined from 2,511 patients on Dec 07 to 2,286 patients on Jan 11.
The federal minister further posted on his Twitter handle saying, “Data clearly shows that corona health consequences are strongly correlated with our decisions and personal choices.”
Reiterating his advice to the masses on taking measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic he added, “If we do the right things we shall inshAllah continue to safeguard lives and livelihoods.”
The number of active Coronavirus cases in Pakistan reached 35,246, NCOC stated as Pakistan recorded 1,877 cases in the past day.
As many as 32 more fatalities were also recorded, taking the country’s death toll to 10,676.
According to the NCOC, about 34,524 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 1,877 came out positive, taking the country’s tally for cases so far reported to 504,293.
Out of the total, 3,699 deaths have occurred in Sindh, 4,272 in Punjab, 1,740 in K-P, 441 in Islamabad, 188 in Balochistan, 235 in AJK and 101 in G-B.
The NCOC stated that of the 32 fatalities reported on January 10, six were reported in Sindh, 12 in Punjab, 12 in K-P and two in Islamabad.
According to NCOC, the total number of recoveries recorded in the country was 458,371.
Pakistan has so far conducted about 7,122,538 Covid-19 tests. There are about 625 hospitals with Covid-19 facilities and around 2,812 patients admitted across the country.
