Keeping view of winter seasons that has just begun, the Prisons Authority has issued instructions for tightening security of jails during foggy weather. The authorities directed to install searchlights on the outer walls of jail walls.
The Inspector General (IG) Prisons issued a letter regarding jail security amid winter season and directed that two Assistant Superintendents will now check the external security at night while Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent will check the security of the prison on a daily basis.
It has been directed that all prison staff must display name plate and official card at the time of duty, the TV channel reported. It is pertinent to note that the Punjab Prisons Department is functioning under the administrative control of the Home Department.
The Inspector General of Prisons (BS-21) is Head of the Department at provincial level, assisted by seven Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons (BS-20). Punjab Prisons comprises five regions namely Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Sahiwal Region while a Deputy Inspector General of Prisons of BS-20 oversees each region.
The Punjab Prisons aims at ensuring the return of the offender to the society as a useful citizen and gradual transformation of Prisons’ administration, in line with the correctional philosophy and rehabilitative approach towards the jail inmates, has resulted in a wholesome and healthy environment in jails.
