TEHRAN – Amid major escalation between Iran and Israel, Tehran is grappling with most severe cyberattacks in its history, as key financial institutions across the country come under coordinated digital attack.

International media reported that Sepah Bank, known as major Iranian bank with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reportedly suffered data damage, with all of its databases allegedly wiped and ATM services rendered completely inoperable.

Customers are unable to withdraw cash, access accounts, or conduct basic banking transactions. The cyberattack appears to be widespread, affecting not only Sepah Bank but also the Central Bank of Iran and several other national banks.

ATM screens across multiple cities have reportedly displayed ominous messages stating: “You can’t take your money from the bank… It was invested by the Iranian regime in creating wars.”

The hacker group Predatory Sparrow has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group, which has been linked to previous high-profile cyber operations inside Iran, announced that the bank was targeted due to its involvement in financing Iran’s missile and nuclear programs.

As per reports, the scale of the attack has left branches of Sepah Bank paralyzed, with no clear timeline for restoring services. Iranian citizens are expressing growing concern over the reliability and safety of the national banking system, with online discussions urging account holders to consider withdrawing their savings from local banks.

There are unconfirmed reports of long queues forming outside bank branches still operating manually. As of now, Iranian authorities have not issued a detailed official statement, though emergency cybersecurity measures are reportedly underway to assess and contain the breach.

This cyberattack marks a dramatic escalation in digital warfare targeting Iranian infrastructure, raising serious questions about the security of the nation’s financial systems amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
