At least eight killed in Balochistan coal mine explosion

QUETTA – At least eight miners were killed after a coal mine collapsed due to gas explosion in Harnai district of southwestern Balochistan province of Pakistan.

Total 18 miners were trapped in the mine, the chief mines inspector said, adding that eight of them were rescued alive. He said efforts are underway to rescue other miners.

PDMA director general said two teams had been sent to Harnai to assist the rescue the labourers trapped at the depth of 1000 feet in the mine.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti have taken notice of the incident. They expressed sorrow over the death of the coal miners besides directing officials to pace up rescue efforts.

The premier said such incidents are very painful and sad, adding that he stands with the affected families in the hour of grief. The government will provide all possible relief to the injured and the affected families.
