In the annual elections of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), Asad Manzoor Butt, the leader of Professional Hamid Khan’s group, defeated Saiqb Akram Gondal of Asma Jahangir’s Independent group on Saturday.
Asad Manzoor Butt secured 6,195 votes while his rival candidate Saqib Akram Gondal could get only 5,768 votes.
Mr. Butt had the support of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Jamat-e-Islami during the elections. His rival candidate had support from the legal wings of the PML-N and the PPP. For the slot of vice-president, Mian Sardar Ali emerged as the winner after bagging 3344 votes.
For the slot of Secretary LHCBA, Qadir Bakhash Chahal notched the slot of secretary LHCBA by bagging 7119 votes. Qasim Samra and Asif Chohan were the candidates who were vying for the slot of secretary but they could not win the election. For the Vice-President office, Mian Sardar Ali Gelan was declared winner with 3344 votes while his rivals including Haseeb Bin Yusuf, with 1,905 votes, Malik Fida Hussain who got 1,677 votes, Mazhar Abbas Sial with 615 votes, and Mian Wahid Nazir with 1,369 votes could not win the election.
Likewise, in the elections for the financial positions of the Lahore High Court Bar, there were three contenders. Among them, female lawyer Falak Naz Gil emerged victorious with 5,503 votes while her opponents Ham Bin Shoaib Kamboh received 5,033 votes and Farakh Shah received 1,389 votes.
The Election Day witnessed a fierce competition between two major groups including Independent Group of Asma Jahangir and Professional group of Hamid Khan. Throughout the polling day, the lawyers actively participated and supported their favored candidates, with lady lawyers also advocating for their contenders.
