PML-N senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has claimed that arrests of the opposition leaders have nothing to do with the accountability as Khawaja Asif was arrested on the wish of the ‘laadla’ (referring to PM).
Talking to newsmen in Sialkot on Sunday, Saad Rafique said that the opposition parties’ alliance – Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is struggling to safeguard the Constitution not to topple the government. “This is the first government which is spreading chaos in the country,” he declared and added the PDM does not want to send government packing to form its own government instead it aims at restoring true democracy in the country. He vowed to continue their struggle through platform of the PDM, which will be strengthened in the coming days. The PML-N leader said a dictatorship has been imposed in the country under the guise of democracy. PTI has damaged image of the country internationally with incidents like seizure of PIA plane by Malaysian authorities and fake pilot licences issue, he opined. He also asked the government to stop political revenge in the name of accountability and warned that if the government did not end the practice, PTI will also get taste of its own medicine.
He strongly reacted to arrest of Khawaja Asif and said that there is no connection between accountability and these arrests and claimed that soon the PML-N will be vindicated. He said that arrests strengthen their ideology, adding the sole purpose of the PDM is to enforce constitution and democracy in the country. Saad Rafique said that transparent elections should be held for the supremacy of the Constitution and law and the process of putting pressure on the courts should be stopped. “The process of political revenge should be stopped now,” he said.
Earlier talking about the creation of the PDM, Saad Rafique said that it was made after the government failed to control inflation and resolve the problems people faced. “They haven’t jailed Shehbaz Sharif, they have incarcerated the lion of Punjab,” he said, adding when they were out of options, the Opposition opted for PDM. The PML-N leader said that the nation and the PML-N had tolerated the government for two years now, but the PTI only made shallow promises to the people. Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader Atta Tarrar said “Khawaja Asif has all the receipts of his business affairs but he was still arrested. The rulers will have to answer on the foreign funding and BRT cases.” He asked the government should inform them on what basis Khawaja Asif’s case was shifted to Islamabad.
