RAWALPINDI – Arafat Minhas made dream ODI debut against Australia, delivering magic spell that immediately placed him in the record books. The young spinner produced a stunning 5 for 32 in 10 overs, becoming the first player in Pakistan’s ODI history to take five wickets on debut.
The 21-year-old stunned world cricket by delivering a record-shattering spell on his ODI debut, becoming the first-ever Pakistani bowler to take five wickets on ODI debut.
He produced a dream performance against Australia, tearing through their batting lineup with remarkable control and composure. In a spell of 10 overs for just 32 runs, Minhas claimed a sensational five-wicket haul, dismantling some of Australia’s biggest names. His prized wickets included Australian captain Josh Inglis, along with Matthew Short, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, and Nathan Ellis, as the visitors crumbled under pressure.
Australia were eventually bowled out for 200 runs in the 45th over, setting Pakistan a target of 201 for victory.
Minhas now surpasses the previous best debut bowling figure by a Pakistani ODI debutant, overtaking the long-standing mark set in 1984 when Zakir Khan took four wickets on debut.
Speaking after the innings, an emotional Minhas said he was delighted with his performance and credited his preparation: “I am very happy to take five wickets in my first match. I have been practicing for these conditions for a long time. I will try to maintain this performance.”
Pakistan’s bowling attack backed him strongly, with Abrar Ahmed taking 2 wickets, while Shaheen Afridi, Salman Agha, and Haris Rauf chipped in with one wicket each to complete Australia’s collapse.
