The APHC-AJK chapter organized a protest demonstration outside the UN office in Islamabad, today, to condemn the Indian atrocities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi’s misleading statements about deletion of the Kashmir dispute from the agenda of the UN Security Council.
The participants of the demonstration on the occasion submitted a memorandum to the UN office, demanding of the World Body’s Chief, Antonio Guterres, to take notice of the brutalities being perpetrated by Indian troops under the garb of coronavirus lockdown in the occupied territory.
The memorandum said while the world is combating the fatal virus, India is subjecting the innocent Kashmiri people to killing in fake encounters, ruthless torture and arrests. “The fake encounters are staged and people are killed in these so-called encounters. This policy is beginning of genocide of Kashmiris in occupied Kashmir, which needs immediate attention of the United Nations,” the memorandum added.
The APHC-AJK expressed concern over the problems faced by journalists in the occupied territory saying that Kashmiri journalists are put in jails for sharing their work and opinion on social media. It demanded the release of all illegally detained Kashmiris including Hurriyat leaders and activists, lawyers and social rights activists. The UN asked to appoint a special representative on human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. While calling upon the World Body to impress upon India to stop human rights violations in the occupied territory, the APHC-AJK stressed the need for implementation of the UN resolutions for settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per Kashmiris’ aspirations.
The attention of the UN Chief was also brought to the unprovoked firing by Indian troops along the Line of Control in Azad Kashmir. “We, the All Partiers Hurriyat Conference, the representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir take the opportunity to present this memorandum to His Excellency towards heaving firing on civilian population at Line of Control including the use of sniper guns by the Indian armed forces and Indian misleading statement regarding deleting Jammu and Kashmir issue from the agenda of UN Security Council.”
Those who participated in the protest included Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Syed Faiz Naqasbandi, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Nisar Mirza, Ishtiyaq Hameed, Shamim Shawl, Javaid Iqbal Butt, Nazir Ahmed Karnai.—KMS
