Former heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua will make a return to the boxing ring on April 1st at London’s 02 Arena against American Jermaine Franklin.

Joshua’s promoter Matchroom and DAZN have confirmed the fight.

The Brit is hoping to get his career back on track after losing his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk and failing to recover them during a second loss in a rematch in Saudi Arabia last August.

The 33-year-old has also lost three of his last five fights dating back to his upset defeat at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jr. in June 2019.

“I am looking forward to stepping back into the ring on April 1 at The O2 London,” Joshua said.

“Mentally and physically, I feel ready. I want to put on a show and impress my coach, as he has high standards. Franklin has a good style and great attitude, which he has shown in recent fights.”

Anthony Joshua will be an overwhelming favourite against Jermaine Franklin, who despite owning a 21-1 record, has not fought many high-profile names. The 29-year-old suffered his first defeat on points to Britain’s Dillian Whyte at Wembley Arena last November.

The fight itself likely seems like a tuneup for the Brit to help him regain his confidence before he sets sight on regaining the gold in his division. Tyson Fury who will likely be facing Usyk next and Deontay Wilder all remain options in the future for the Brit.
