WORLD stands changed with the introduction of information technology. The application of this modern technology has brought a revolution in every field. In our country, one person that speaks vehemently and passionately on innovation and modern technology is President Arif Alvi who in fact is fully cognizant of the fact that Pakistan can only keep pace in terms of development with the rest of the world only by equipping the youth with the latest technology.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of 33rd Annual Conference of Asian Association of Open Universities, President Arif Alvi, stressed the need for use of modern teaching methodology to address the issues of illiteracy, poverty and unemployment. He said internet is an affordable option to further expand knowledge horizons and stressed the students to extensively benefit from digital technology devices, including tablets and laptops for getting access to diverse reference material. Indeed this is a digital age and for any kind of information and research work, the youth can explore the entire world from the comfort of his home by using the internet. Access to information had never been so easier than it is today. Therefore, the President is very right in saying that we will lag behind in the next industrial revolution if our youth did not benefit from the latest tools and technology. However, for this, our youth also requires proper guidance and the services of a really trained faculty having the potential to exploit the real talent. The irony is that a criminal negligence has been meted out to education sector in our country. No attention was paid to improve the quality of education and this is the reason that today even the educated youth is finding it hard to get employment either at home or abroad. As the government is working to bring a new uniform syllabus, the focus must be on training and teaching the students as per the modern day requirements. It is only through producing a highly skilled workforce that we can compete in the world and bring economic revolution in the country. We expect that the government will also benefit from the inputs and experience of President Arif Alvi to finalize the new syllabus that should discourage rotting and promote conceptual learning.
