Sindh Chief Minister’s adviser on Livestock and Fisheries, Syed NajmiAlam, underscored the pivotal role of these sectors and highlighted Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s directive for their further advancement to uplift impoverished communities. Alam conveyed these directives during a meeting with Livestock and Fisheries department officials at the Directorate General’s office in Hyderabad.
During his one-day visit, he toured various directorates including Animal Extension, Poultry, Research, and Diagnostics, stressing the need for enhanced animal vaccination processes and officer training. He emphasized the necessity of functional veterinary centers in every tehsil and urged departmental officers to expedite lagging development projects.
Alam directed immediate recruitment to fill vacant positions and ensure adequate staff availability. DG Livestock Hizbullah Bhutto reported that efforts were underway to recruit for the remaining sanctioned posts and highlighted vaccination accomplishments, with millions of animals vaccinated. Alam urged completion of development schemes and stringent monitoring of animal movements and vaccinations to curb disease spread.
He addressed concerns about the threat to indigenous breeds due to increased slaughter of small animals, proposing legislative solutions and the introduction of schemes to preserve these breeds.
Furthermore, Alam announced plans to hire a consultant firm to oversee development schemes and discussed the potential of artificial insemination to enhance milk and meat production with departmental officials.
During his visit, Alam inspected cattle research labs and engaged with foreign experts regarding breeding projects. He also received briefings on rehabilitation plans for cattle farms, advocating for increased budgets to activate incomplete schemes.
