Agriculture Dept declares emergency after forecast of heavy rainfall

The Sindh Agriculture department has declared emergency and cancelled vacations due to the prediction of heavy rainfall in the province. Whereas to kill locusts swarms due to prediction of rain 98 field teams has deputed in all over Sindh, said Minister Agriculture Ismail Rahoo in a Press Statement. Moreover he stated that, Because of rain crops in desert area could be more affected by locusts attack. He said spray campaign has been continued by the Sindh Government and Within 24 hours Locusts swarms killed in 12 affected districts through spray in 8448 hectors of area. Fields teams has surveyed and already sprayed on 27,433 hectors area, he said. PPP legislator shared that the department has sprayed in the area of Badin, Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, Naushaharo, Sukkur, SBA, Kashmore, Tando Alahyar, Matyari, Dadu and Jamshoro. Ismail Rahoo asked that the citizens of Sindh are waiting for the initiatives of Federal Government that when they will took practical step to finish locusts. He said in case of rain on soft land locusts could give one thousands eggs within the area of one square meter, whereas heavy rainfall is the most favorable period to increase procreation. Provincial Minister said that the teams of department are working day and night, and the suvey teams in desert areas are also on alert. However he stated if Imran Khan would be free from picnicking then he should take action on locusts attacks as the federal government has not yet started aerial spray in sindh.
