The fifteenth meeting of the Islamic Emirate’s cabinet covered the difficulties faced by Afghan immigrants who are imprisoned in neighboring and region countries.

The meeting, which was chaired by the Islamic Emirate’s Prime Minister, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, and the Foreign Ministry, was tasked to take steps for the release of Afghan prisoners and to address their challenges.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was ordered to make an accurate count of the prisoners in other countries, address and investigate their cases,” the Islamic Emirate’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid told TOLOnews.

According to the data of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR), currently nearly six thousand Afghan immigrants are imprisoned in Pakistan and nearly seven thousand are imprisoned in Iran due to different crimes.

Some analysts believe that discussions with neighboring and regional countries are important for releasing Afghan prisoners.

“The good thing about these meetings is that ideas are exchanged, information is exchanged, decisions are made in the light of information, and it can be very useful,” said Sayed Moqadam Amin, a political analyst.

“It is the duty of the Islamic Emirate to address the problems of the Afghan immigrants imprisoned and their rights,” said Abdulhai Qanit, an international relations analyst.

The Arg said in a statement that in the cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Economy was tasked to address the challenges facing Kochis in the country.

Local officials in Nimroz said that 100 Afghan citizens in prison in Iran were handed over to Islamic Emirate officials.

According to local officials, some of these prisoners have spent 10 to 20 years of imprisonment in Iran and are going to spend the rest of their imprisonment in Afghanistan’s prisons.

Afghan citizens were in prison for various crimes, and have been handed over to the Islamic Emirate based on the prisoner exchange agreement between the two countries.

“According to the agreement of the foreign ministries of the Islamic Emirate and Iran, 100 prisoners have been transferred to Nimroz from Iran,” said Khial Mohammad Nusrat, acting director of foreign relations in Nimroz.

“Their cases have been entrusted to the committee and after an investigation they will be sent to court and they will have some meetings in court,” said Mohammad Yosuf Mistary, general head of the country prisons.

Some of these prisoners urged the current government to forgive their remaining sentences and return them to their families.

“We call on the Islamic Emirate to release us because we face so many challenges there,” said Nougul, a prisoner.

“Since we were in Iran, we prisoners wanted to be delivered to the Islamic Emirate as soon as possible,” said Ismail, a prisoner.
