The city administration celebrated Defence Day with immense enthusiasm and national pride, under the personal supervision of Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi. A variety of events were held to honor Pakistan’s martyrs and highlight the significance of the country’s defence forces.

The celebrations kicked off with a girls’ hockey match at the Islahuddin Hockey Stadium, followed by an art and painting competition. A special tree plantation ceremony took place at Annu Bhai Park, where Commissioner Naqvi planted a tree dedicated to Defence Day.

He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure the tree’s care until it matures, marking the day with an environmentally conscious tribute. Commissioner Naqvi also met with local cricketers at Annu Bhai Park, offering his encouragement and assuring them of the administration’s continued support in organizing cricket matches. He paid tribute to the late Annu Bhai, a renowned sports reporter, in whose honor the park was named, emphasizing his lasting impact on the sports community. A musical program was also organized as part of the celebrations, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Earlier in the day, Commissioner Naqvi, alongside Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, distributed prizes to the winners of the girls’ hockey match and the art and painting competition. The event was further graced by Olympian Islahuddin, who was present to celebrate the sporting spirit of the young participants. The events exemplified Karachi’s dedication to honoring the heroes of Pakistan’s defence and fostering a spirit of unity and national pride.
