An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has sentenced several individuals, including Adil Raja, to multiple life imprisonments in a case related to “digital terrorism” against state institutions.
The verdict was announced on Friday by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas during the hearing of cases linked to incidents of May 9. The decision was delivered shortly after the completion of the trial, which had earlier been reserved.
According to the court order, Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi and Wajahat Saeed were each awarded two separate life sentences. Similarly, Sabir Shakir and Moeed Pirzada were also sentenced to two life imprisonments each. In addition to life terms, the court handed down cumulative prison sentences amounting to 35 years under other charges.
The court further imposed a total fine of Rs1.5 million on the convicted individuals.
During the proceedings, the prosecution presented a total of 24 witnesses before the court. On the prosecution’s request, the trial was completed in the absence of the accused. Prosecutor Raja Naveed Hussain Kiani appeared before the court on behalf of the prosecution.
In the case registered at Abpara Police Station, the court awarded life imprisonment to Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada and Syed Akbar Hussain. Meanwhile, in the case registered at Ramna Police Station, Shahin Sehbai, Haider Mehdi and Wajahat Saeed were convicted and sentenced.
During the hearing, Advocate Gulfam Ashraf Goraya appeared in court on behalf of the accused.
