ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday restored the membership of Adil Bazai from the National Assembly constituency NA-262 Quetta.
The ECP issued a notification regarding the restoration of Adil Bazai’s membership.
The notification issued by the ECP stated that the notification of November 21 was annulled in light of the Supreme Court’s order.
The ECP declared that Adil Bazai would be an independent Member of the National Assembly rather than a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Following this decision, the Election Commission also halted the by-election in NA-262.
Last month, the ECP declared Adil Bazai ineligible following a reference filed against him.
For the disqualification of MNA Adil Khan Bazai, the ECP, after a reserved decision, declared him ineligible for floor crossing and ordered his seat to be vacated, thereby declaring NA-262 vacant.
Adil Bazai was elected as an independent member of the National Assembly from Quetta.
After his election victory, he first submitted an affidavit regarding joining the PML-N, and later submitted another affidavit for joining Sunni Ittehad Council.
During the hearing, Adil Bazi’s lawyer argued that the affidavit of his joining the PML-N was fake.
Nawaz Sharif had filed an ineligibility reference against Adil for not casting a vote on the Finance Bill and constitutional amendments. The Speaker of the National Assembly forwarded the reference to the Election Commission, which said that Adil violated the party policy during the constitutional amendment vote.
