Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, held a meeting with Ms. Emma Fan, the Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects in the province. The meeting focused on flood rehabilitation efforts and other key infrastructure initiatives supported by ADB. During the meeting, CM Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of the “WASH Project” (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) for flood-affected communities. He explained that the Sindh government, with support from the World Bank, ADB, and other organizations, is working to provide safe homes for flood victims. A key component of this effort is ensuring proper sanitation systems, including the installation of bathrooms and drainage systems, for approximately 2.1 million flood-affected homes. The Chief Minister also discussed the need for solar projects for flood victims’ homes, highlighting the importance of renewable energy solutions, especially given the high cost of electricity. He urged ADB’s support for these initiatives, noting that many flood-affected individuals are unable to afford expensive electricity. In addition to flood relief efforts, the CM raised the issue of the “TP4 Water Treatment Plant” in Karachi, requesting ADB’s support for its installation. Ms. Emma Fan assured full backing for the project and confirmed ADB’s continued assistance for the development of critical infrastructure. Furthermore, both parties agreed to conduct a study on infrastructure gaps in Hyderabad. The CM stressed the need for identifying and addressing the city’s infrastructure needs comprehensively so that future projects can be planned accordingly.
