ISLAMABAD – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has urged Pakistan to expand its narrow tax base as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s revenue collection system.
The development lender has also announced an additional $200 million in financing for Pakistan to support the modernization and improvement of its revenue administration system.
The ADB’s call comes as Pakistan continues efforts to increase tax revenues and broaden the tax base as part of wider economic and fiscal reforms.
The ADB emphasized the need for Pakistan to bring more individuals and businesses into the formal tax net to enhance domestic revenue generation and reduce fiscal pressures.
The additional financing is aimed at helping the country modernize its tax administration, improve revenue collection mechanisms and strengthen the overall efficiency of the tax system.
