On the 12th day of the 21-day “Awami Theatre Festival” organized by Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, the play “Saleem Ka Drama” was staged, attracting a large audience. The play, written and directed by Saleem Afridi, featured a stellar cast including Saleem Afridi, Mehak Noor, Shamayal Khan, and Sapna Ghazal.
The evening began with a vibrant folk dance performance by the Akram Sono Group. The storyline revolved around the theme of an “All-Time Achievement Award” being presented in the Senate to a multi-talented and celebrated artist. The play opened with the dance group’s performance, followed by a host introducing the show and announcing the arrival of General Musharraf.
Saleem Afridi, in his versatile performance, depicted several iconic personalities, including Pervez Musharraf, the KP region’s PK, Jaun Elia, Rahat Indori, and a stand-up comedian. The play also showcased engaging performances by Mehak Noor, Shamayal Khan, and Sapna Ghazal, adding depth and entertainment to the production. In the climax, the host called Saleem Afridi for a one-man show, during which he delivered a remarkable performance.
The story took an emotional turn when an “All-Time Achievement Award” was announced for the late humanitarian artist Akbar Khan, honoring his contributions to the arts. This tribute by Saleem Afridi deeply moved the audience. The play was met with immense appreciation from the audience, who lauded the performances and the tribute to Akbar Khan. The festival continues to provide a platform for showcasing diverse and meaningful theatrical productions.
