ACP hosts diabetes awareness seminar, medical camp

Arts Council of Pakistan hosted a significant seminar and free medical camp titled “Diabetes and Ramadan Kareem,” aimed at raising awareness and providing medical assistance to its members and their families. The event, held at the Haseena Moin Hall, featured renowned consultants including Diabetologist Dr. Riasat Ali Khan, Dr. Aftab, Dr. Qaisar Sajjad, and Ejaz Farooqui, who shared invaluable insights.

The free medical camp offered essential tests such as sugar tests, cholesterol tests, BMI checks, and blood pressure screenings to attendees. During the seminar, Dr. Riasat Ali Khan emphasized the silent nature of diabetes, urging attendees to prioritize controlling the condition through lifestyle adjustments such as regular exercise, balanced diet, and timely medication.

He also highlighted the alarming rise of diabetes cases in Pakistan and stressed the importance of weight management in prevention. Dr. Aftab underscored the health benefits of consuming jaggery over refined sugar due to its beneficial minerals alongside glucose, emphasizing the importance of faith and health. Ejaz Farooqui, Secretary of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, emphasized the significance of walking for a healthy lifestyle, advocating for mindful eating habits.

He expressed gratitude to the President of the Arts Council, Ahmed Shah, for their support in organizing diabetes research through medical camps, highlighting the collaboration with Dow Medical University to combat diabetes rates. Dr. Fareed Uddin, during the event, revealed that out of the attendees tested, 10 individuals were unaware of their diabetes condition, indicating the importance of such awareness programs.
