The Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) has expressed strong opposition to the excise duty imposed by the government on property purchases, indicating they may seek legal recourse. Mustafa Shekhani, Chairman of ABAD South, stated, “The excise duty imposed by the government is completely inappropriate.”
He further explained that ABAD has repeatedly appealed to the government to revoke this tax, but their requests have been ignored. Shekhani clarified, “Federal excise duty is typically imposed on manufacturers, not on us as builders and developers.
The construction industry is already struggling, and this additional duty is only making things worse.” He emphasized that if the government does not revise its policies soon, investment opportunities may shift abroad. According to him, the construction sector is already in decline, and the added taxes are further compounding the challenges it faces.
