Aafia freedom postcard signature drive held in KPC

A campaign to sign postcards addressed to the US president appealing to release Dr Aafia Siddiqui on clemency grounds was held here in the Karachi Press Club (KPC) in what journalist community took part warmly.On the occasion, Jamaat-e-Isalmi MPA in Sindh Assembly Muhammad Farooq  was the chief guest.

He was greeted by KPC secretary general Shoab Ahmed and others.Speaking on the occasion, MPA Muhammad Farooq said that arranging postcard signature campaign for release of Dr Aafia is praiseworthy. He said he himself signed the postcard in the KPC. He urged the citizens to sign these postcards in a large number.

He asked the US government to release Aafia Siddiqui urgently.However, KPC President Saeed Sarbazi lauded the role of Aafia Movement and Dr Fowzia Siddiqui for a heroic struggle to raise the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is a Pakistani mother.KPC general secretary Shoaib Ahmed said that the journalist community supports the cause of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

He said the government should redouble its efforts towards seeking the release of Dr Aafia. Senior journalist A H Khanzada said that whole Pakistani supports the demand to release Aafia Siddiqui immediately. He condemned the inhuman treatment being meted out to Dr Aafia Siddiqui in the US jail and demanded that the long ordeal of Aafia must end now.

However, Aafia Movement Spokesman Muhammad Ayub said that the zeal and inspiration of the citizens in the Aafia freedom postcard signature drive is welcome and heartening. He thanked Karachi Press Club President Saeed Sarbazi, Secretary Shoab Ahmed, governing body members and journalist community for their efforts to hold the postcard signature drive.
