ISLAMABAD – Nation goes to 12th general elections 2024 to elect their representatives for National Assembly and four provincial assemblies with a hope that new government would tackle economic and security crises in the country.
A total of 128 million registered voters in the country will use their right in what is being described as the country’s biggest ballot race.
Absence of PTI founder Imran Khan from the ballot paper has raised fingers over the transparency of the elections. Despite all that, let’s take glimpse of heavy contests across the country in the polls.
NA-130: Nawaz Sharif vs Dr Yasmin Rashid
One of the most sought-after contests in the election is expected between PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, who is confident of making the next government, and PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid, who has been in jail for months in cases related to May 9 violence.
NA-10: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan vs Bakht Jehan Khan
PTI’s newly-elected chief Barrister Gohar Ali Khan is contesting elections from NA-10 Buner while Jamat-e-Islami’s Bakht Jehan Khan and ANP’s Abdur Rauf are in the ring against him.
NA-207: Asif Zardari vs Sher Muhammad Rind
PPP head Asif Ali Zardari has decided to contest elections from his stronghold NA-207 Nawabshah where his major opponent is PTI leader Sher Muhammad Rind.
NA-194: Bilawal Bhutto vs Rashid Mahmood Soomro
PPP chairman Bilwal Bhutoo is contesting from three constituencies of the National Assembly, including NA-194 Larkana where he is facing JUI-F’s Rashid Mahmood Soomro.
He is also contesting from NA-127 Lahore to try his luck against PML-N leader Attar Tarar and PTI-backed Zaheer Abbas Khokhar. He is also in the race from NA-196 Qambar Shahdadkot.
NA-123: Shehbaz Sharif vs Afzaal Azeem Pahat
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has decided to contest from two constituencies NA-123, Lahore and NA-132, Kasur. PTI-backed Afzaal Azeem Pahat, JI’s Liaquat Baloch are the main opponents in the na-123 while Sardar Muhammad Hussain Dogar will try his luck against him in NA-132.
NA-118: Hamza Shahbaz vs Aliya Hamza Malik
PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz is vying for NA-118 seat where incarcerated PTI woman leader Aliya Hamza Malik would give him a run for vote.
NA-119: Maryam Nawaz vs Shehzad Farooq
PML-N chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz is contesting elections from NA-119 Lahore where she will face of PTI’s Shehzad Farooq.
NA-44: Maulana Fazlur Rehman vs Ali Amin Gandapur
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is in the race from NA-265 Pishin where PkMAP head Mahmood Achakzai has withdrawn in his favour. He is also contesting in NA-44, Dera Ismail Khan where he will face off PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur.
NA-128: Salman Akram Raja vs Awn Chaudhry
Lahore’s NA-128 is also expected to see a close contest where PTI-backed Salman Akram Raja is facing of IPP’s Awn Chaudhry, who has also gained support from the PML-N.
NA-6: Sirajul Haq vs Muhammad Bashir Khan
JI head Sirajul Haq is in the race in NA-6, Lower Dir where PTI-backed Muhammad Bashir Khan and PPP’s Muhammad Hanif Khan are facing him.
NA-248: Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui vs Dr Arslan Khalid
MQM-P convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui is facing PTI’s Dr Arslan Khalid in NA-248, Karachi.
NA-155: Jahangir Khan Tareen vs Siddique Baloch
In NA-155, Lodhran, Tareen will face PML-N leader Siddique Baloch and PTI-backed candidate.
