The Capital Development Authority continued with its special operation to clean rainwater and natural drains of Islamabad on Friday.
The operation started on Thursday and continued on Friday and as result of the CDA efforts, rainwater and natural drains have been channelized at six different points in different sectors of Islamabad.
Chief Commissioner, Islamabad who is also Chairman CDA Amir Ahmed Ali visited different sites to oversee the ongoing cleanliness work of drains.
During his visit, the Chairman directed to accelerate the pace of work and complete cleanliness work within two weeks. Through this ongoing special operation all the rainwater and natural drains of Islamabad will be cleaned so that these drains don’t pose any threat to citizens during rainy season.
During this visit it was briefed that rainwater and natural drains flowing in Sectors F-5, G-6/3, F-6/3 and Sector F-11 have been channelized.
It was further informed that significant portion of natural drain flowing in sector F-7/2 has been channelized while left over portion of the drain will be cleared by Saturday. It was further informed that during this operation, garbage is being removed, fallen trees in the drains are being cleared, wild growth from these streams is being removed and debris and blockages are also being cleared in addition to dressing and leveling of these streams so that uninterrupted flow of water particularly rainwater during monsoon may be ensured. By this operation the rainwater and natural drains will be restored to their natural form.
Apart from the CDA, ICT Administration and the MCI are also participating in this special operation. The special operation has been started following directions of Chairman Capital Development Authority. The cda management believes that rather than debating which organisation is to do this that is McI or cda, everyone has to work together.
Machinery from other sectors besides MPO Directorate is being used for complete cleaning of these rainwater and natural drains.
Simultaneously, Capital Development Authority is working to hire the services of a consultant to find a permanent solution of rain and drain water in drains in Islamabad. The consultant will provide solutions to this problem which will help CDA make these drains trouble free and an addition to beauty of Islamabad.
