Punjab Assembly Speaker and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has paid glowing tributes to police martyrs including DIG Captain Ahmad Mobin who was martyred in a bomb blast in front of Punjab Assembly in 2017 and SSP Gujranwala Ashraf Marth who was martyred in an attack in 1997, saying the government and the police chiefs need to look into the problems of the force.
“Police jawans have always performed the role of frontline defender in every condition and the entire nation salute to all martyred including SSP Ashraf Marath.”
In his message on Police Martyrs Day (Youm-e-Shuhda-e-Police) here on Tuesday, Ch Pervaiz Elahi recalled that when he took over as the Punjab chief minister, the first announcement he made was that all awards to the martyrs and funds to their heirs (families) should be given according to the announcements.
He said that during his tenure, pension of the widows of the martyrs was increased on annual basis year. However, I was greatly grieved to know that Shehbaz Sharif had stopped all announced awards and concessions to the families of the martyrs during his first tenure.
We had developed such a system that nobody should stop again the concessions for the families of the martyrs.
He said that now the present government and the police chief are duty bound to check whether or not the system they had introduced for welfare of the martyrs family is operational or Shehbaz Sharif’s exploitative system has again been started.
The government and police chiefs must look into the problems being faced by the policemen, the PML-Q leader remarked.
