In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) has expressed serious concern over the rising cases of COVID-19 among the jail inmates, particularly in Islamabad district jail.
APHC leader and JKPM Chairman Mir Shahid Saleem in a statement issued in Jammu said that despite the directions issued by the Indian Supreme Court to reduce the crowds in prisons by releasing as many prisoners as possible, there are thousands of innocent youth lodged in different jails.
“There is no charge of a serious nature against them, hence there is no trial,” Mir Shahid Saleem said and added that the authorities were playing with the lives of innocent people for the sake of revenge and retribution.
The JKPM Chairman urged New Delhi to release all political prisoners from jails before Eid-ul-Azha so that they can celebrate the festival with their families and friends.
