The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board in a major decision has banned 100 textbooks allegedly full of substandard, faulty and inaccurate information, being taught at the expensive schools.
Mistakes in the textbooks of the claimants of quality education, MD Punjab Curriculum and Text Book Board exposed.
MD Rai Manzoor Nasir while addressing a press conference said that 10,000 books have been collected from private schools. Thirty committees are reviewing the contents of these books, and the board has immediately banned 100 books.
In these 100 books of 31 publishers, the date of birth of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal was incorrectly written, inappropriate words were used about the (Sahaaba) Companions, Azad Kashmir is shown on the map of India while Mahatma Gandhi’s statement was also published in one book.
He further said that the sale and use of the said books has been banned in Punjab and these books will be discarded. If these books are found anywhere in 7 days, FIR will be registered against those responsible.
Earlier, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas has said that Urdu as Medium of instruction at primary-level will help strengthen basic ideology of students and prepare them for future responsibilities in a better way.
Murad said that English as a language, however, will continue to be taught as a language. “Uniform education system will enable the students to understand history of the country and link the past with the future to transforming the country into the vision of forefathers,” he added.
The provincial minister participated in the meeting from his office at Punjab Textbook Board in Gulberg. All stakeholders participated in the meeting and reviewed all aspects of a national curriculum.
Murad Raas informed that Punjab has already submitted its suggestions to the federal government. He said that uniform curricula will strengthen national cohesion and bring all provinces together.
On the other hand, headway has been made in the payment issue of examination and paper-marking wages to teachers.
The Punjab IT Teachers Association had submitted in writing to the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) for payment of ‘long-delayed’ examination and papers marking stipend. Upon which the PEC had issued cheques to all CEOs across the province for payment of examination fee.
The commission had ordered payment to teachers within a month.
It is to be recalled that the Punjab IT Teachers Association had complained to t to CEO (Education) Lahore Punjab Education Commission, highlighting the problems being faced by the teachers due to non-payment of examination and paper marking stipend to teachers. Following the complaint, the CEO education had called into his office all cluster heads for collection of cheques
Meanwhile, Punjab IT Teachers Association President Muhammad Imran has expressed gratitude to the CEO education for prompt payment of examination and paper marking stipend to teachers. He also demanded stern action those official responsible for delay in payment.
